Huntsville Italianate Beauty

The Darwin House in Huntsville, Alabama was built by S. S. Darwin in 1888. He sold it less than 10 years later to a couple who turned it into an infirmary for patients that had to be quarantined during periods of serious illness. It was one of the first houses in Huntsville built with bathrooms and gas lighting. It has some beautiful Italianate features with a little one-slope mansard roof thrown in there! It’s a contributing home to the Old Town Historic District which has been on the National Register of Historic Places since 1978.
