This Italianate Tuscan Villa house is the Phineas Kent House in New Albany. It was built around 1855. Phineas Kent was a lawyer by profession, but made most of his money in the printing business.
The home was later owned by Captain John B. Ford who is known as the American father of the plate glass industry. He founded the Pittsburgh Plate Glass Company in PA. He was known as “Captain” because at one time his factory produced steamboats before he got into the plate glass business.
This house has belonged to the St. Paul’s Episcopal Church since 1951 and is located on New Albany’s Mansion Row.
